| Acne |
There is the comedone ( blackhead ), pustule ( whitehead ), and cyst. The cause is also the same: the skin's
response to the hormones that circulate in the body. The treatment is similar with slight variations.
In the simplest terms, acne is a disease that affects the oil-producing glands in the skin. We, as humans, have hundreds of thousands of these glands located on our faces, chests and backs. These sebaceous glands (oil glands) are stimulated by the hormones circulating in our body to produce excess oil. The oil causes the dead skin cells lining our pores and on top of our skin to become slippery. These dead skin cells then slide over the opening of the pores and get stuc k, causing bacteria to become trapped. Trapped bacteria then digests the oil and causes large, red, painful pimples. Blackheads, whiteheads and cysts may develop. |
| Melasma |
Melasma is a skin condition that is characterized by the development of irregularly shaped skin areas containing varying shades of brown pigmentation. It is frequently associated with pregnancy or the use of oral contraceptives, but Melasma can occur in men. The relationship of Melasma to pregnancy and birth control pill usage implicates hormones as a potential cause, at least in some cases. Sun exposure and genetics are also believed to contribute to the development of Melasma.
Treatment for Melasma always involve avoiding sun exposure, and prescribed mediacation. The medication cannot thouroughly get rid of the malfunctioned cells but can only control and minimize them. However, with this treatment it can decrease Melasma up to 80 or 90 percent if follow instruciton properly. |
